A New way of looking at Innovation

Innovation… world of work’s favorite word!

The more I work with my clients on innovation projects, the more I discover how less I know about the subject.

But I can see few patterns… few equations…

Here is one for you:

[(Curiosity + Competence + Courage) x Generosity] x Story = Innovation

Curiosity: Because that’s what keeps you going… finding better answers, solving interesting problems.

Competence: Because Innovation is real. You see, we take time here to understand. We have been brainwashed by the sole importance of intent. Intent is important, but without competence, Intent leads to insult.

Courage: Because it might not work — and that’s what makes it so interesting and so much worth it. And by the way, I must make a point here. First mover advantage is a fairy tale. Amazon was not the first online book seller. Google was not the first search engine. Facebook was not the first social networking platform. You got the idea… Right. But yes, going first is thrilling. There are no guarantees — but there is thrill for sure.

Generosity: Because without seeking to make things better — innovation is a pointless hustle. When it makes things better, it makes business sense too.

Story: Because idea that travels more, wins better.
