A rant on kindness!
They tell me that today, anything we adapt must be profitable. And so, I’ve been investing my time in understanding how the right things are also the profitable ones.
I think kindness is a great investment. It scales better than competitiveness, jealousy, frustration, shame, revenge or apathy.
Kindness is contagious. It leads to more kindness. It creates trust, opennes, joyfulness, enthusiasm, patience and possibility — and it all makes a brilliant profit-sense. Think of a business that treats you with kindness v/s a business that treats you like a transaction. Think of a boss who expresses kindness in all her interactions v/s a boss who looks at you as an expense sheet item.
Kindness is a business model and a platform for growth. Yes, it takes effort, but the returns are astonishing.
If you believe that we all are created by the same creator, you must also believe that we have the same living force within us. When we treat someone with kindness, we are ultimately doing good to the same living force. And so, I think kindness is mean. You don’t do it for others — you do it for your own self.
Try it today. Act with Kindness — and then, Act with Rudeness. Observe yourself. Reflect. And then, whatever makes you more joyful and exuberant — scale it up.
One more thing. Kindness is not transactional. It should not happen because someone treated you with kindness. NO. That’s not the deal. The idea is to treat others with kindness, no matter what — because you can. It must be a choice. Regardless of what others choose to do in response, kindness is what you choose to do. Because you can.
It might be enough to change someone’s day. And then the ripple continues.
Go. Be kind.
