Do what you love v/s Love what you do!
Those who have followed my work, writing and teaching, can track my passion to strengths and to the very idea of doing what you love.
It’s powerful, it’s high on impact, it’s joyful — BUT it’s rare.
On the other side, we have a great opportunity on hand — to love what you do.
I know it’s tempting to spend time trying to get paid for what you love. It’s desirable.
But it’s probably much easier, doable and direct to engage yourself about loving what you do.
Because there is a choice. To hate what you do and to love what you do. What is constant is “What you do”. Doing it with love is a choice. A choice that opens up opportunities to find new possibilities and ways of transforming what you do into what you love to do.
It’s simple. You must be grateful for what brings livelihood for you. At the same time, you must be committed to find avenues where you can apply your innate strengths and engage with your passion.
I have reached some conclusions — and I hope I am wrong…
I find people using passion as an excuse for doing lousy, unprofessional work.
“Give me something I’m passionate about and I’ll show up with all of my insights, energy, effort and compassion.”
For me, this is an excuse. This is not professional.
I believe one must earn the stage to practice passion.
The world needs consistent, focused, caring and compassionate folks.
“Give me a chance to contribute, and I’ll do my best, work with consistency and focus, and once I start making progress, I may find my passion somewhere in the work I am doing”.
To conclude… passion is not imaginary, wishy-feely stuff. Passion comes from contributing, improving insights, doing work that matters.
