Do Your Own Performance Review!

The annual review is a waste. First, because it’s annual [not the right frequency for anyone to make much of an impact] and then review [that’s more formal, boring, consequential and poorly prepared and executed.]

It’s not particularly useful for employee or boss [and they all say it off the record]. Employees don’t find any worth as it hardly guides them into the field of “better”… and boss hates it because it takes up so much time when year-end closing is on cards.

I have a proposal. If you are serious about your own development, you can do your own review. Weekly or monthly, you can sit down with yourself (or for more impact, with a small peer group) and review how you are contributing.

Few questions to ask:

  • Have I challenged someone or something lately?
