Teams are Cool — the small ones!
Small teams are cool. They are as cool as big teams are ugly.
Small teams get things done — with less drama.
They have a goal, a rhythm, and sense of responsibility.
Small teams are small enough to communicate effectively, regularly, generously and repeatedly. They are large enough to have disagreements, debates, deliberations and conflicts.
Small teams drive results because everyone is in spotlight. It’s always the showtime. There is no place to hide and no time for excuses.
Think of a friend circle. A big one and a small one. You’ll know what I am talking about.
Few quick rules, small teams can move mountains:
- Clean up your own mess — and clean up other people’s messes. This applies to everyone. And this cleans up most of the mess.
- Over-communicate. Take feedback. Give feedback.
- Question strategy — not the intent.
- Question performance — not the person.
- Make mistakes, own them, fix them, share the learning.
- Help others. It's part of the job.
- Don’t be surprised by surprises.
- Talk to everyone as if they were your boss, your customer, the founder, your employee. It’s all the same.
Look out for opportunities to work in small teams.
