The Essential Skills

Corporates love jargons. We love jargons. We love fancy words. We love words that everyone knows but no one understand. We use these words to impress, deceive or manipulate…

Words like:

  • Stress Management [Why?]
  • Time Management [How?]
  • Emotional Intelligence [What?]
  • Status Quo [Who?]
  • Thinking Outside the Box [When?]

DUH… DUH… DUH.

But then there are words (or phrases) that are better. They speak for themselves. These are the skills we must invest on. Now. Right Now!

  • Ability to Start and Stop without Drama
  • Assertiveness for the ideas that matter
  • Build something Bigger
  • Clarity over Confidence
  • Compassion for those who are not like you
  • Creativity in the face of challenges
  • Decision making with Courage
  • Empathy for people who matter
  • Hustle instead of Convenience
  • Reacting v/s Responding
  • Responsibility to be Remarkable
  • Stand for something
  • Thinking instead of simple Compliance

All of these are real skills, skills that matter — and the best part is that we can learn these skills. All they need is a decision. Decision for us to make. To learn it or to ignore it.

I am on a mission. To make observations and disturb people. To confuse them… to help them think beyond their convenience. I want to literally eliminate these useless, pointless, purposeless trainings, just to satisfy the TNA and allocated budgets. What a shame.

It’s time to focus on skills that matter. The real skills. I call them “The Essential Skills”.
