If you ask 20 employees to be part of a meeting for an hour — which mostly results in nothing productive, no one will ever question you on wasting such precious time-resource. But if you find an employee reading a book during office hour, this not acceptable. Right!

Reading book is not slacking off. Reading book is not wasting time. Books helps you in changing perspective with ultimately enhances your productivity and contribution to the organization.

So, here is the challenge — I call it “The Reading Challenge” — #thereadingchallenge

Let us join hands in changing the perception about books. Let us all contribute towards making it cool. Book reading is cooler than smoking your life off.

The Reading Challenge

Let us organize our workday in such a way that every employee gets to enjoy 30 minutes of reading.

Read anything they are interested in. Read anything they’d like to know more. Read anything that they think will improve their perspective. Read about work, market, biographies, marketing, sales or anything else that will help them march forward.

How about designated smoking areas, common rooms, walkways and cafeteria offers you books for easy grab and read.

Here are my randomly selected seven books you might want to read at work. Imagine you reading these books and then, discussing these ideas with your colleagues. WOW… Just the thought is giving me goosebumps. Imagine the exponential growth in insights and inspiration to do work that matters! WOW…

· The Excellence Dividend by Tom Peters

· 21 Lessons for the 21st Century by Yuval Noah Harari

· Go put your Strengths to Work by Marcus Buckingham

· Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman

· Start with Why by Simon Sinek

· Drive by Daniel H. Pink

· Linchpin by Seth Godin

I know books will never trend as Ice Bucket Challenge. You see — books are for the brain! But then, it’s worth a try.
